The most important maintenance task is replacing the UV lamp, which must be done annually. 

This is because the lamp’s effectiveness in producing UV light diminishes over time, even if it still appears to be functioning. 

The quartz sleeve that houses the lamp should be cleaned or replaced every two to three years, depending on water quality and usage. Some systems may include pre-filters that need periodic changing, usually every few months.
