The Challenge
Modern data centres are increasingly focused on sustainability and efficient water management to meet ESG targets and regulatory requirements. At a newly developed data centre in Melbourne, the site required a safe, low-maintenance water disinfection system to enable the reuse of harvested rainwater for non-potable applications such as toilet flushing and irrigation.
Given the sensitivity and critical operations of the facility, the water treatment solution needed to be compact, automated, and reliable – with a focus on long-term performance and low energy consumption.

The UV Guard Solution
UV Guard, in partnership with a local water systems integrator, supplied a complete UV disinfection solution as part of the site’s Rainwater Reuse System.
Key system components included:
- Stainless steel UV disinfection reactors for high-performance microbial reduction
- Pre-filtration and pressure vessel for system protection and flow stability
- Integrated control panel with HMI touchscreen and remote monitoring capabilities
- Compact, modular frame for easy transport and site installation
The system was fully skid-mounted and delivered to site pre-assembled, minimising installation time and disruption to the active construction zone.

The Outcome
The UV disinfection system now plays a critical role in enabling the safe reuse of rainwater across the site. It ensures that water used for WC flushing and landscape irrigation is consistently treated to a high microbial standard – supporting the centre’s broader sustainability goals.
The success of this project has led to additional work with the same partner at other data centre sites across Victoria, with systems now being prepared for upcoming developments.

Looking Ahead
UV Guard’s scalable disinfection systems continue to support Australia’s growing data centre industry in meeting their sustainability and operational goals through safe and efficient water reuse.

Stopping the spread of viruses in aquaculture research facility
The aquaculture facility had multiple research stations all independently researching different fish species at the same time, and each one of these stations required its own UV system to treat the water entering that specific area. Additionally, all seawater entering the research facility needed to be treated. All UV systems needed to be selected to achieve minimum UV doses to achieve sufficient inactivation of viruses such as white spot.
