Total Organic Carbon Reduction

UV treatment systems utilising ozone-producing UV lamps are an efficient solution to reduce Total Organic Carbon (TOC) in ultrapure and other water applications.

TOC Reduction using Ozone-Producing UV Light

TOC is a measurement of the number of organic compounds in water. It provides vital information to industries or operators by indicating if their process water is to a suitable quality.

Ultrapure water is a key requirement in pharmaceutical, semiconductor and microelectronic industries. TOC needs to be reduced in these applications to preserve product quality. In other applications such as wastewater or stormwater treatment, TOC reduction is required to improve the water quality to a safe level suitable for discharge or re-use.

Design of TOC Reducing UV Treatment Systems
UV Guard has many years of data detailing the impact of UV treatment and the required UV doses to achieve measurable reductions. As a highly specialised application, it is advised each project be discussed with a UV Guard engineer.

Case Studies

  • Coca Cola – Sugar syrup (liquid sugar) UV treatment

Coca Cola is a major manufacturer of beverages including soft drinks, bottled water, sports drinks and fruit juices. Coca Cola in Richlands Queensland was installing a new production line which required Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection for the sugar syrup application. The UV system on the existing production line also required an upgrade.

  • Spring water bottling plant UV treatment

Nu-Pure Beverages are a 100% Australian owned business who produce bottled spring water and other beverages. Their spring water is sourced from specially selected pristine Australian springs, pure with a natural balance of minerals.

  • Tropical Ice – process water UV disinfection for ice manufacturing

Tropical Ice are an ice producer who supply over 110 tonnes of ice to their customers each day. Tropical Ice is one of the largest producers of high quality, food-grade ice in Australia. The water they use must meet all required Australian health regulations.

  • Veolia Validated UV disinfection for wastewater treatment plant

The construction of the 450 hectare Bingara Gorge community which included an 18-hole golf course required a Recycled Water Treatment Plant as it is a residential development located outside the normal wastewater network serviced by Sydney Water. Our customer Veolia was approached to build the project.
